To view duplicates in Excel, use the Conditional Formatting feature. This highlights repeated values in a selected range, making duplicates easy to identify.
Steps to View Duplicates
Select the range of cells where you want to check for duplicates. This can be a single column, multiple columns, or an entire table.
Go to the Home tab on the ribbon.
Click Conditional Formatting in the Styles group.
Hover over Highlight Cells Rules, then select Duplicate Values.
In the dialog box, ensure Duplicate is selected from the drop-down menu.
Choose a formatting style such as a color fill to highlight duplicates.
Click OK.
All duplicate entries in the selected range are now highlighted with the chosen formatting. Unique values remain unchanged.
Notes
Highlighting does not remove duplicates. It only makes them visible.
For multiple columns, Excel highlights duplicates within each column individually, not across columns together.
Windows and Mac options are nearly identical. On Mac, Conditional Formatting is in the Home tab, and the dialog layout may appear slightly different.
Optional: Filter Duplicates
Select the column with duplicates.
Go to the Data tab.
Click Filter.
Use the filter drop-down to display only highlighted cells.
This allows working exclusively with duplicate entries without altering the rest of the data.
