How many seconds are there in a day and how does one calculate that?

There are 86400 seconds in a day exactly.

How to we get that?

We know there 24 hours in a day. We also know there are 60 minutes in every hour.

Finally, we know there are 60 seconds in every minute.

Therefore;

1 minute = 60 seconds

60 minutes (1 hour) = $(60 \times 60)$ seconds

24 hours X 60 minutes = (60 X 60 X 24) = 86400 seconds
